スクラッチテスタは薄膜やコーティング表面の機械的特性、たとえば密着性や破壊特性、変形特性などを評価するための専用試験機です。多様な補完的な手法を用いて、膜/基板系の特性評価や摩擦や密着力などのパラメータの定量化が可能です。研究・開発や品質管理に有用なツールです。

 

スクラッチテスタは、測定領域に置いた鋭利なチップ先端に一定の荷重をかけて引っかき試験を行う技術です。通常はダイヤモンドか硬質金属(WC)を用いたチップでコーティング表面を所定の荷重を保ったまま、あるいは連続的に荷重を増やしながらスクラッチします。
その後、ある臨界荷重に達したとき、コーティングは剥離し始めます。負荷アームに取り付けたアコースティック・センサ(MSTおよびRST)を用いて、臨界荷重は非常に正確に検出されます。また、組み込まれた光学マイクロスコープでの観察でも確認、照合できます。その臨界荷重のデータを用いて、膜と基板の密着力を定量化できます。
スクラッチテスタは、さらにアコースティック・エミッション(AE)を用いることで、付加された垂直荷重、摩擦力、押し込み深さを計測できます。アコースティック・エミッションによるデータを含むこれらのパラメータは、コーティング系の機械的特性を示します。
