Die technische Keramik wird ein immer auffälligeres Material im Alltag. Während der Evolution der Keramik haben wir profundes Wissen zur mechanischen Charakterisierung dieser gewonnen. Die Bruchzähigkeit ist eine der wichtigsten Eigenschaften und lässt auf viele weitere Kennwerte rückschließen. Der Revetest ermöglich zum Beispiel die Messung der Kratzfestigkeit von Fließenböden.
